Purple Eyeliners

They say purple eyeliners are the most universally flattering color, and I'm not sure who "they" are, but I do love purple eyeliner! It's not as stark as a straight black liner, and a bright purple can be a fun pop of color.  I own eight purple eyeliners, swatched below:

L to R:

-Estée Lauder Artists eye pencil in Plum Writer

-Sumita contrast eye pencil in Jamun

-Stila smudge stick waterproof eyeliner in Tetra

-Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on eye pencil in 1999

-Urban Decay 24/7 glide-on eye pencil in Lust

-Physicians Formula gel cream liner from Glam Green Eyes shimmer strips in a lavender color

-Loreal HiP color truth cream eyeliner in Eggplant

-Cailyn line fix gel eyeliner in purple

Smear test:

As you can see, 6 out of 8 did not budge.  The two that did are two of the more pricey liners in the group!

Do you have a favorite purple eyeliner? What is it?

Cheap and Chic? L.A. Colors Eyeshadow Sticks

I love makeup. I do not love paying outrageous prices for makeup. Most of my collection (okay, probably all now that I think about it) was purchased at a discount or obtained through swapping or subscription services. I've always avoided "low-end" brands like L.A. Colors, because they just don't have the quality that I'm interested in. However, I've decided to start trying these dollar store brands in the interest of science lol!

So without further ado, following are swatches and thoughts on L.A. Colors eye shadow sticks: I picked up seven colors at Dollar General for $1.50 each.

L to R: pool party, waves, bikini time, tropical bliss, sand castles, summer love and seashells

They are all nice and creamy, except for summer love which was pretty hard and took several swipes to get good color. It also has the most glitter, which probably accounts for the stiffness of the product.

Over e.l.f. eyelid primer in pearl:

It intensified the colors and summer love was much easier to apply over the primer than bare skin.

One swipe smear test:

Over e.l.f. eyelid primer in sheer:

Smear test:

Over Elizabeth Arden Advanced Eye Fix primer:

I dulled the colors, and as you can see by the smear test below, still smudges:

I can't find my Urban Decay primer potion (yikes!!), but I'd like to swatch them over that and see if there's any more staying power.

Bottom line: These were fun to experiment with, and with a great primer and possibly setting powder, they might stay put. For $1.50 each, they aren't bad for experimenting with color though!

What do you think? Any tips or tricks for making a cheap shadow stick stay?

Welcome!

Hi, welcome to my new blog!  I've been thinking about doing this for a long time, and randomly decided now was that time.  I plan to blog about my life and some things that are important to me, or just my weird and amusing hobbies, like collecting makeup and whatnot.

I'm just going to ramble on about what I might write about on here...I get Birchbox and Ipsy and will probably write about those when they come once a month, because they're pretty fun.

My daughter is 11 and she is so intelligent and funny and would probably crap her pants if she knew I was blogging about her, but I will probably share some things about our life.

I love product testing and am completely fascinated with the new (to me, at least) marketing and advertising via social networking, using just regular people to spread the word.  I love finding great new products.

I rarely buy anything beyond groceries and household staples at full price, I get such a rush from finding great bargains!
